Plant a Tree - Stop Global Warming
A single tree can absorb more than one ton of CO2 over its lifetime. Yet a few qualifying points demand attention.
Trees slowly remove carbon from the atmosphere as they grow and mature. A single tree might absorb one ton of carbon over its 40-year lifespan. When that same tree dies and decomposes naturally - gets cut down and burned as firewood - it will release most of the carbon it sequestered over the course of its lifetime.
So once a tree has been planted, someone needs to watch over it, and, when the time comes, salvage it for lumber or dispose of it in a landfill rather than mulching or burning it.
